10 Days Great Migration Safari

Tour Overview

A great migration safari is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the incredible annual journey of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles across the Serengeti in Tanzania and through the Ngorongoro Crater. These majestic animals travel vast distances in search of food and water, braving treacherous terrain and facing predators along the way. A great migration safari offers the chance to get up close and personal with these incredible creatures and to witness firsthand the beauty and power of nature.

 

Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro – Arusha

Upon arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be greeted by one of our guides and driven to your hotel in Arusha. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and take in the local enviornment. All of our guides knowledgeable about the Tanzanian culture and can provide information about attractions in the area. Feel free to ask your guide any questions you may have. 

Day 2: Arusha National Park

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Arusha National Park to begin your safari. This captivating park is home to a wide variety of landscapes and wildlife, including lakes, waterfalls, swamps, volcanoes, mountains, and tropical rainforests. It is a haven for birds, including silvery-cheeked hornbills and thousands of pink flamingos. The park is home to large numbers of Black and White Colobus monkeys so keep your lunch close! One of the popular activities in the park is a canoe or walking safari which allows you to get closer to nature and experience wildlife in a different way. 

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park

This park is known for its diverse landscape and a variety of wildlife, including elephants, baboons, and possibly tree-climbing lions. The large soda lake is home to many animals such as buffalos, warthogs, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, and flamingos. The shallow Hippo Pool offers great opportunities to see hippos and provides a stunning view of the Rift Valley Escarpment. 

Day 4-6: Serengeti National Park

We will  will continue our safari journey in Serengeti National Park, known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. The annual wildebeest migration, with over a million wildebeest, is a highlight of the park. It is a spectacular sight to see millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles roam the endless plains of the Serengeti. Along with your private guide, you will search for these herds across the park. In addition to the migratory animals, you will also have the opportunity to see a variety of other animals, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, and more.

If you would like to view wildlife from a different perspective, consider going on a balloon safari. It is an incredible experience to drift silently above the plains with herds of wildlife below.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you will have a good chance of seeing a lot of wildlife. Upon arriving at the crater rim, you will descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. The views are breathtaking! The collapsed volcano creates a unique ecosystem with a variety. After a full day, we will retire to our accommodations on the crater rim for a sunset dinner and overnight. 

Day 8: Tarangire National Park

After leaving Ngorongoro Crater, we will spend the day exploring Tarangire National Park on a full-day game drive. This lesser-known park in Tanzania still has an authentic safari atmosphere and boasts a stunning hilly landscape with grand Baobab trees against the blue sky. You will have the opportunity to see the world’s largest concentration of elephants, with herds of up to 300 often found around the Tarangire River drinking and enjoying mud baths. In addition to the elephants, Tarangire is a paradise for birdwatchers and is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even tree-climbing pythons.

Day 9: Tarangire National Park

This morning we will have a chance to relax at our accommodation for the last day on safari. You may choose to spend the day by the pool or on a guided tour of a local village nearby. While on the village tour, you will have the opportunity to make some local jewelry or help cook a traditional meal. 

 Day 10: Return to Arusha

Today we will be driving back to Arusha in time for your flights or you may book an alternative accommodation. Arusha is a beautiful city and has a lot to offer for travelers. If you are interested in making more arrangements, consult one of your guides or our travel experts for suggestions.

You can choose when to start and end your daily activities, and how much time to spend observing particular animals or herds.
